My review of Offbeat by Nikki Lynn Barrett

Taryn McAllister had everything ripped away from her in an instant when a car accident left her a paralyzed from the waist down, her boyfriend dead and her best friend who was driving, country star Kyra Sanders able to walk away. When they learn the truth about the accident Kyra and Taryn reconnect and work on repairing their relationship.

When Kyra gets Taryn a chance to perform with the band Baby Stetson as their drummer, she must decide what she wants in the future and if she is ready to go out on the road, when confined to a wheelchair.

Chris Roland, the brother of Melody Roland, from the band Baby Stetson has agreed to be the backup drummer if Taryn chooses not the join but for some reason he no longer finds any passion with drumming. Yet a call from his mother, the first in 20 years, makes him question everything and must find out what is keeping him down.

Will Taryn and Chris discover the attraction they have for each other and go forward or will the ghosts that each of them have keep them at a distance and prevent them from moving on.

This book was great! I thought it really explained the ups and downs of what Taryn was going through so well and my heart was honestly just in pieces for her. I can't imagine what anyone goes through and then to discover why it happened is so just so mind blowing.

I also really enjoyed how the author tackled depression and what Chris went through and then the look into his and Melody's mother. I was not happy at all with the mom, Bridgette through out the whole book and although I understand the need to save your child I am still blown away at her choices. The author did a phenomenal job at making you so angry with her!

I enjoyed how hard Chris worked at making sure everything was right for Taryn and how all of her friends tried their best to make sure she was comfortable with all the changes in her life. The friendship between Kyra and Taryn had to be rebuilt but they were still able to share so much together and I like that they are able to get their relationship more solid after everything they have been through.

Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!!

My review of Je Suis A Toi by Pepper Winters

This is the only book that I have read in this series so I am missing some of the back story but that being said I didn't feel lost or lacking any information.

Tess Mercer still can't get over that she is lucky enough to be married to Q Mercer after three years. One thing she knows he doesn't like is surprises but she plans on surprising him for his birthday with their friends.

Q Mercer is keeping a major secret from Tess and when he reveals it to her will he be risking everything he loves? When he decides to change the dynamics in their relationship will it divide them to the point where they can't find their way back?

Wow - I wasn't sure what to expect with this book but it definitely left me with wanting to go start the series from the beginning! There is so much that I look forward to learning about the back story and it is because I enjoyed this one so much!

It is clear that both Tess and Q are amazing and strong people to overcome what they have but it is also clear how torn Q is with what he is keeping from Tess. His guilt and his belief in karma threaten to destroy their relationship but Tess never gives up on what she believes in.

It is also clear how their small group of friends - Suzette, Franco, Frederick and Angelique are very loyal to both Tess and Q but do what is best for each, even if they may not realize it!

This novella was great and I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series!

My review of Divergent Bloodline by TJ Shaw

Detective Viviane Taylor is investigating the murder of Victor Gleason and the trail has led her to the powerful businessman Julian DeMatteo. Viviane knows that Julian is definitely hiding something and she knows she must find out what, while putting her attraction to him aside.

Julian DeMatteo is the king of vampires and knows he is walking a fine line with his attraction to Viviane and protecting his people. When one of his enemies puts Viviane in danger Julian knows he must protect her at all costs, no matter how many alliances he loses.

This was a good story that evolved into a more complex story than what I was expecting. I loved all the initial tension between Viviane and Julian as they tried to figure out what there relationship could be.

I thought Katherine was pretty evil and controlling with how she felt with Julian and never really knew which side she was going to be on. Julian was so protective over Viviane that I didn't know what would happen with their alliance.

The love of Viviane and Julian seemed true and I don't know if she caught the eye of Eddie as a way of getting to Julian or because he knew more than they did about Viviane.

This was my first time reading the author and it won't be my last.

My review of The Omega Team: Ethan's Promise (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Lindsay Cross

Ethan Slade is a Sergeant First Class of Task Force Scorpion and is being forced to take a vacation before being allowed to take his next mission. He is offered a job by Rowdy working for Omega to watch over Senator Tom Cotter's daughter, Caroline.

Kate Richards has just left her job at the CIA after getting tired of her sexist boss and has been hired onto team Omega and will be going undercover to help protect Caroline. But first she must be trained by Ethan to get her ready to do her job properly.

The tension between Ethan and Kate is hot although neither will admit it. Will the two be able to put their attraction aside and stick to the training or will their budding relationship but both of their lives in danger?

This is a great book and I loved Ethan! I love how he is so dedicated to his job and really has no desire for a forced holiday. His initial reluctance to train Kate is apparent but he needs to be successful and therefore trains her hard.

I love how Kate leaves her job at the CIA and it is sad that she was really forced to leave as nothing was done about her supervisor. She really wants to succeed although her actions at the end prove to be so dangerous.

This was a great book and I can't wait to see what happens next with Aaron as it left me with a but of a cliffhanger!!

My review of Sweet Indulgence by Jill Blake

Becca Markham is just getting out a bad relationship with her cheating boyfriend, John, and deciding what she wants from her job when she decides to follow her heart.

Leo Kogan has always had a secret crush on Becca but as a co-worker of John he has always kept his distance but when he discovers that Becca has caught onto John's indiscretions he decides to make his move.

But Becca is not ready for another relationship and when it is clear that Leo and Becca's views on jobs and money are completely different will they each be able to give a little for each other or are they better off just as friends?

This is the second book I have read by the author and both I really enjoyed. I love the debate that Becca had between giving up her real job for the job of her dreams. I love how that was partially inspired by everything her mom was going through. I did love that Becca's mom finally got up the courage to leave her abusive relationship showing the reader that it is never to late to leave and live for yourself.

I also enjoyed the exploration of how Leo grew up and how he had a different value placed on the job from living in Russia and how uncertain life can be. He wants to make sure his family is secure and the best way he knows how is through a good job.

I love how Becca and Leo start with a friendship but Leo already knows he wants more so he is somewhat pushing her but at the same time afraid to push too hard and scare her!

Such a great story about discovering what you want and how sometimes you need to compromise!

My review of Crave by Victoria Danaan

This is the second book is the Exiled Series and Carnal needs to be read first.

Crave has been kept but the Rautt for years and is finally rescued by his family and friends but he has no recollection of them or of his actions upon being rescued. Will Crave be able to get his memories back and finally come back to the land of the living or will he be forced to live in a new prison among those who love him?

His Promised, Dandelion, has hopes that the Crave she remembers is somewhere inside of him and doesn't give up on him. She reads to him every night and no matter how crazy he acts she remains there for him.

Yet when he snaps out of one trance and it is clear he doesn't remember much will his actions push away Dandy when it is clear he doesn't remember who she is? Will he ever remember what they had?

This book is definitely puts your emotions through a roller-coaster! I can't imagine how much torture Crave endured as a prisoner to the Rautt and it is understandable why it took him so long to recover. Then when he snaps out of the first trance he has no memory of who he is which is so hard for those that love him. Dandy never gave up until he broke her heart, without even being aware of it.

Dandy's devotion to Crave was so amazing and the love she had for him was so true and she never gave up on him. She truly deserves so much happiness and I'm glad that she was able to find her true purpose in the book and give herself to her new job.

I absolutely loved getting to know Charming in this book and I really hope that he is next! He really took over the leadership and did what was needed of him so that everyone around him had time to heal and put their efforts other places.

Can't wait for the next book!

My review of Grand Prize by Kira Hillins

Melanie Cranberry has no idea the trouble she's gotten herself into when she wins the grand prize at Night on the Red Carpet and walks away with two eligible bachelors. She's bound by rules to go on dates with both men and then choose a winner. The trouble is that both are good looking and dangerous.

Cage Niching is a lawyer and well known ladies man who is looking to settle down with just one woman. He is attracted to Melanie and a little forward in his approach. But he wants to win the prize, Melanie.

Victor Wine is a detective and is looking to bring down the Rock Maker after losing his girlfriend, Muara to the drug. The easiest way is to go undercover which brings him to Melanie. Yet, he can't deny the attraction they have and soon must decide if the past is worth risking the future.

Will Melanie be able to decide between the two men and soon it looks like she is in over her head as the bullets start to fly and she discovers that she is a pawn in a deadly game.

Wow - this book had so many twists and turns I really never knew what was coming next or who I was cheering for. Ok, maybe I knew that right from the beginning but I can't spoil it!

Melanie is so innocent in this book it is crazy and she truly had no idea except wanting to find a nice guy to go on a couple of dates with. I just can't believe how much craziness was involved and how deep the connections went. I was blown away by some of the twists and turns and really had no idea what was coming next!

I knew which guy I wanted to win right from the beginning as I was looking at the one I would want. Cage and Victor are such opposites yet are best friends but shared some common interests and hobbies, although Cage's were a little more extreme. Yet in a twisted way both guys were trying to figure out what happened to Muara but were going at it differently.

This was a great suspenseful book and I definitely look forward to reading more from the author!

My review of One More Chapter by K.S. Thomas

Karma Gracey has not had an easy go of life. She loves her job as an editor and doesn't get out much and definitely has no plans for romance. She sometimes is forced to go out with her best friend Layne Larson, a romance writer, but she enjoys her reclusive lifestyle until she meets him.

Jenson Wade is doing the best he can surviving and raising his two kids. He has no plans on moving on from his past until a chance meeting with Karma turns his life upside down. Yet she is the sister of a friend of his, Dallas, who wants Jenson to stay as far away from Karma as possible. Yet he can't do that.

Will Karma and Jenson be able to help each other recover from difficult pasts and find a future together or will the ghosts of the past overtake any chance of happiness for the future?

K.S. Thomas is one of those authors who make me giddy just by knowing that I have a book in my tbr pile. Her writing just blows me away and is just filled with so much honesty, pain and struggles that you feel like you are gasping for air and then at other times she has you laughing so hard at the things she comes up with. This book is definitely worth the read.

When she writes about Jenson's children, Kenzie and Mason you can tell she is a mother who has been through some of these things. I love her describing Kenzie as Houdini and the whole sick episode made me laugh so much as I have been there.

But this book also has so many levels of pain and the things that Karma has gone through breaks your heart into a million pieces as she was never able to put everything back together properly.

This book is about hope and the power of love to heal what is broken.

Absolutely incredible!

WTMO Excerpt Banner Final.jpg

The name on the file folder, J. McKenna, gave me a chill. He had been wounded in the line of duty—shot by a bank robbery suspect. Seeing the name reminded me of where I came from and why the need for hiding existed. I pushed the memories down. I’m not that person anymore. That person doesn’t exist. It wasn’t necessary to touch the necklace underneath my sweater as a reminder, but it had become a nervous habit. The locket was the only thing I had kept from that life.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The door opened and Sheila showed my patient in. As my eyes met his, my heart stopped for what seemed like hours. After reading the file, I was afraid of this. How many Jackson McKenna’s could there be? The hair is shorter and the face is older, but it’s him. I would know those eyes anywhere. Jackson McKenna. He was my first love and indirectly, the reason I had to use a cane to walk farther than across the room.
I cleared my throat and stood, reaching out to shake his hand as I would with any new patient, hoping he didn’t recognize me.
“I’m Dr. Parker. Please make yourself comfortable, Officer McKenna, and we can get started.”
When I realized his right arm was in a sling and we couldn’t shake hands, I dropped mine back to my side. Picking up my notepad and pen, I hoped he didn’t see the way my hands were shaking.
“It’s actually Detective, not Officer.”
He sat on the couch across from me, observing with those hazel eyes that have haunted my dreams for ten years, and then he shook his head.
“You remind me of someone I used to know a long time ago.”
My review of The Dream Walker by Michelle Lee Murray
When Mortimer picks up a stone he has no idea the power he has unleashed from a time in Mystica when wizards kept the balance of power over the land and there was an equal divide between good and evil.
Miranda is in class when she feels as though she is being called as someone needs help. Miranda then begins a journey in another time and place and must decide who is there to help her with her journey and who is there to stop her so she can help the King of Mystica.
I honestly had some trouble getting into the book and had to remind myself that it is a YA book. That being said I usually love YA. I found that I never got attached to any of the characters in the book and everything happened so fast that I felt like I was being forced along.
I liked the character of Miranda but felt like I didn't get to know her enough outside of the quest and therefore felt like she was just forced into the quest. I would have liked to know a bit more about her outside of what she was doing to save the King of Mystica.
The other characters were talked about but aside from Walking Bear I felt detached from most as it was a quick introduction and then they were gone. I would have definitely liked a bit more character development!
Hopefully the next books fill in more of the gaps!
HOLDING FAST by Jeanine Binder
My review of Praise Her, Praise Diana by Anne Rothman-Hicks and Ken Hicks
Attorney Jane Larson is in a relationship with David but she believes that he may be cheating on her. When she becomes the lawyer for writer Maggie Edwards she has no idea what she is getting into.
Maggie Edwards has just written a very successful book based upon a girl who is raped by two men then gets revenge on them but Maggie has secrets that she is hiding from everyone and is having trouble writing her next book. What Maggie doesn't expect is the character in her book, Diana, to take on a life of her own and be tied up in various murders on men who have been "deemed guilty".
Will Jane and Maggie be able to figure out who the real Diana is and be able to stop all the madness that is going on around them. Will their developing feelings for each other begin to cause even more problems for what is going on around them?
I enjoyed the book but found that I sometimes got lost on who was who and which group everyone was associated with. It was interesting to read about women committing these "sexual" crimes against men but it was almost too much with all the bickering going on between all the different women and I found that it took away from the story.
Jane has no luck with relationships and I think she should honestly just join a convent! I'm still not 100% sure on the truth of what happened between her and David and I wish we got the truth. Maggie is so clingy with Jane and I felt that she didn't trust her at all and didn't like how she was trying to keep Jane from her job and all the people that needed her.
I found that all the secondary characters had so many disagreements that I almost lost interest in most of them. Their squabbling took something away from the story as I found them childish yet the story was trying to portray women as being stronger by beating and injuring men who degraded them.
Hopefully Jane is able to get some good luck soon!
My review of Phoenix Rising: A novel of Anne Boleyn by Hunter S. Jones
This book is a fictional account of the last three days of Anne Boleyn's life.
I found the book interesting but I almost would have liked a bit more on King Henry himself and why he was so determined to have Anne executed. I know the reasons he gave in the book and they were definitely selfish, yet with the number of wives he had I'm not really surprised.
It was definitely interesting looking at the different opinions and accounts of what everyone was going through and it was pretty sad that Anne thought all along that she would be pardoned.
I think I'd definitely like to know more about Anne as although we got to know her in the book it definitely wasn't enough for me and I definitely wanted to know more about Lady Jane Seymour!
My review of So Far Away by Dakota Madison
Maddie Malone is in the middle of a huge papparrazi firestorm since being named as the nanny who broke up Hollywood's favorite couple Daniel Robinson and Annabelle Miller. Thrust into a spotlight she doesn't want she can't get a job anywhere once people figure out who she is but a friend gets her hired on as the personal assistant to reclusive writer Jackson Drake.
Jackson Drake doesn't have many rules at all but the number one rule is no hanky panky. Maddie is positive that won't be a problem until she meets Emerson Drake, Jackson's son who she had no idea even existed. When the attraction between Emerson and Maddie grows will she put her job first or throw it all away for a chance at love?
I enjoyed this book but I found that so much happened in a short amount of time that it was almost too fast for me. I felt bad for Maddie and everything that she went through with being innocent in how the press portrayed her. I'd almost think that people would have jumped at the chance to hire someone with a "dirty" past.
It was weird in a way that Emerson had no issues with Maddie at risk for losing her job when he was only at his dad's for a short amount of time. The ending was too funny with how everything turned out and it definitely did make me laugh.
“Aly, any guy would want you. You’re smart, fun, cook like a pro, not to mention beautiful. Not just beautiful, you’re sexy as hell.”
With my last words, her head snaps back towards me. “What did you say?”
I repeat myself. “You’re smart, fun…”
She cuts me off before I finish, “Not that, Bentley. The last thing.” And I think I may have revealed too much.
“You’re beautiful and sexy.” All of a sudden, she does what I wanted her to do since I first met her. She grabs my head, pulling my mouth to hers. I’m not talking about just a little peck on the lips either. I’m talking about the kind of kiss that has me hard as a rock in seconds.
I wrap my arms around her waist to pull her closer. At first, she just uses her lips and damn, if they aren’t the softest lips I’ve ever felt. I tease her bottom lip with my tongue. She moans and I slide in, instantly rolling her tongue with mine.
My review of Wolf's Blade by Clare Dargin
Callum Blake is the lead Paladin for his pack and is on a quest to bring down former pack member Eryx Leva who has committed murder and has stolen the sacred dagger. Eryx is trying to become the King of Wolves and must complete several tasks in order to become the King.
When Callum and Eryx battle, Samantha Dixon overhears Callum's wolf cry and believes that he could be her mate and rescues him after his fight. As Samantha helps Callum regain his strength will he allow her to tell her father and alpha the danger they are in or will she keep quiet for the sake of love until it may be too late?
But when other truths are revealed will it be too much for Samantha and her pack to bare or will love conquer all?
I thought this book was good but it didn't grab me and I found certain notions difficult. I found it interesting how Eryx pointed out all the flaws within Callum's tribe yet, he never addressed them nor did his father. This was one of the few books I have ever read where it appeared that the alpha didn't know what he was doing in keeping his tribe together.
The attraction between Callum and Samantha was immediate but that does appear to be consistent with werewolf books. I found the book extremely fast paced and it didn't feel like there was much time at all that went by from start to finish.
I would definitely like to read the author again as I did enjoy the book but I found I just drifted from time to time.
Pre-order blast for Offbeat by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My review of Cinderella Busted by Petie McCarty
Lily Foster is the owner of Bloom & Grow nursery and is embroiled in a legal battle over being grandfathered in on a rule that allows her to live on the property. She is very lucky to have Rob Shaw and Tammy Waynette working for her and helping her through the tough times since her father passed away.
When Rhett Buchanan walks through the doors of the nursery and believes that Lily is a wealthy customer she does nothing to change his mind when the handsome man asks her for a date, not knowing who he is. Lily feels as though she is "Cinderella" as she begins a romance with the handsome CEO, but is her time running out for telling him the truth?
As life explodes around Lily and the truth comes out, it looks like more secrets and lies are all around her and Lily doesn't know who to trust anymore. Yet those closest to Lily know the type of person she is and will do anything to make her feel like Cinderella one more time.
This book was great and had so many layers of trickery and deceit involved in it which was fun to read about. Lily is both innocent and guilty at the same time. I completely understood why she wanted to feel special and "escape" from her world as it hasn't been easy for her lately. I initially understood why Rhett was upset but then he was just pure crazy and Delia was just evil from head to toe.
I loved Rob, Tammy, Garrett and Aidan and their loyalty to Lily and her happiness. At times I wished that it was going to be a different outcome due to the loyalties that they had towards Lily and not Rhett.
There were definitely a few surprises in the book and some stuff that didn't surprise me at all! I would love to see another book come out with more of these characters!
My review of Honor Bound by Laura Strickland
The battle of Culloden has just taken place in Scotland in April 1746 and Diarmad Ramsay's father has just lost his life on the battlefield.
Diarmad must now pretend to be Prince Charles Stuart in order to confuse the English on which way the true Prince Charles Stuart went. He is accompanied on his journey by Mara MacIvor and the two must navigate slowly to their destination in Northern Scotland without getting caught while safely leaving rumors of them travelling together.
As the two begin to get to know each other they develop an attraction for each other and must decide if they can hold off their feelings for each other long enough to complete the journey or if their attraction for one another will get in the way of completing the journey.
I enjoyed this book and found their journey enjoyable. It was definitely interesting as they left clues to who they were as they passed through towns but never gave any clear indication. I found it was definitely intriguing with Archibald and MacNeal to see who was willing to do what for a certain price.
I found that I enjoyed the book but didn't get totally swept away by the characters. The book was good and I would definitely read the author again.
My review of Fire, Fury, Faith by N.D. Jones Audiobook
This story focuses on the love story between Serwa and Issa who have come together from warring tribes and found a love that lasts indefinitely.
There are three chapters and each one focuses on a different aspect of their life. Fire involves the beginning of their love and what happens when their love is discovered by Serwa's dad. It also involves a demon who attacks Serwa. This chapter takes place in the past.
In Fury Issa is seeking revenge on the demon Ethan O'Leary and it takes place in present day. The angel Nathaniel allows Issa to become a Hunter Angel to take down O'Leary while Serwa lies in a hospital bed.
In Faith Issa finally has the chance to catch O'Leary but learns that maybe that wasn't all he was missing in his life. He finally realizes that he can't do everything on his own and sometimes needs the help and love of others to pull him through.
I enjoyed the audiobook but it's definitely different than reading a book. This is only my second time listening to an audiobook and I always find it amusing to hear a man pretending to be a woman, especially during sex scenes. The book was definitely enjoyable but at certain points I found myself a little lost because I wasn't reading and couldn't go back as easy to see what I missed to understand better.
That being said I did enjoy the book and would definitely try one again from this author!
